Many publications, newspapers and magazines around the world talk about this unique house built in Portugal, attesting that it really does look like the type of house from a very famous cartoon: The Flintstones. After a big report in the National Geographic, the house and the place where it was built, the Fafe Mountains, became known throughout the four corners of the world.
The house even has a name, Penedo House and is located in Várzea Cova, just 12 km from Fafe. The place is accessible, either by car or on foot, as there is a trail that passes right next to it. The house was built in the 70s, as a refuge from the hustle and bustle of the city, as the place is peaceful and quiet. It is made entirely of stone, using three large granite boulders that already existed on the site. Even today it is private property, and can only be admired from the outside.
A Penedo House It is located in an easily accessible but isolated area, offering peace and quiet to its owners. It is the only house in the area, with only ventilation towers for wind energy production as neighbors, which is common in Serra do Fafe. Despite being close to the towers, the house does not have electricity. This really makes it look like a house from the Flintstones era.
The visit is also justified by the travel options in the surrounding area, as for those who enjoy nature, there are plenty of them, as there are many trails and the best known of them is Trilho do Vento, 14 km along the Serra de Fafe, exploring the higher parts of the mountain range and passing through typical villages.
