restaurants

Where to eat

Lisbon has hundreds of restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets, so it is difficult to give a brief selection here. However, we have a partnership with A Lota, a restaurant serving Portuguese cuisine with excellent quality and easy access. Some starters/dishes may be enough for two people. Please check with the waiter before ordering.

If you mention that you did a tour with Portugal Afora, you'll get complimentary coffee or a ginjinha at the end of your meal.

A Lota: specialized in Portuguese cuisine, fish and grilled food, dishes between €15 and €25.

public transport

How to get around Lisbon?

Using public transport is an easy and safe way to get around Lisbon. Avoid using a car, as traffic can be chaotic and parking difficult and expensive.

Airport to the center

There are several ways to get to the center of Lisbon from the airport. You can take a taxi right outside the terminal (they charge for luggage and it is more expensive after 10pm); you can call an Uber identified with the TVDE badge; you can take the red line metro or you can take a bus to Marquês de Pombal.

In town

The easiest and cheapest way is to use the Navegante Card. You can get a card by going to one of the machines inside the metro stations. Charge with whatever amount you want. The value of the trip is deducted every time you swipe the card. You can pay by cash or card. For more information www.carris.pt

Taxi & Uber

When taking the bus or metro is not viable, you can go for for a private service. Taxis are black and green and are licensed. The price may vary depending on the time and if the trip is outside Lisbon. Alternatively, you can call an Uber, which will have to display the TVDE sign on the window.

Experience

ride a tram

Riding a tram in Lisbon is a unique experience, as they are centuries old and only run through the streets of Baixa. Don't forget to use the Navegante Card to get a much more affordable price for your trip. You can also use it in elevators and lifts operated by Carris.

viewpoints

Amoreiras 360º

This viewpoint is paid, but you can have one of the best 360-degree views of Lisbon. It is possible to see the 25 de Abril Bridge, Monsanto, north Lisbon and the entire downtown area of Lisbon.

Lisbon Oceanarium

The Lisbon Oceanarium is one of the largest in the world and a great idea if you have children. And since you're at Parque das Nações do a walk in the Expo area next to the Tagus River.

curiosity

Crazy about coffee!

the main types

Café or Bica: as a general rule, tourists prefer more coffee, so ask for “a full coffee” otherwise the cup comes half full

Meia de Leite: half milk, half coffee, in a large cup

Galão: more coffee than milk, served in a large glass

Pingado: coffee with a splash of milk

Abatanado: American-style coffee served in a large cup

Sem princípio: weaker coffee, without the first bit of the coffee

Carioca: a much weaker coffee, served in a small cup

suggestion

Go to Porto

Venture out and go to the city of Invicta as it is also known. This vibrant city is full of attractions and has already won several tourism awards. Don't forget the Caves in Gaia.

The best way to get to Porto is by train (book on CP) or go by bus (book on Rede Expresso or Flixbus)
