Portugal is a country known for its palaces, castles, monuments, gastronomy, wines and the friendliness of its people. But that's not all. The sister country is also known for its beautiful beaches, recognized by tourists from all over the world as some of the most beautiful in the world.
One of them is the “almost” wild beach of Odeceixe, which is on the border between the beaches of Alentejo in the known Vicentine Coast and the Algarve, southern region of Portugal. It is actually on the border, as a river, the Look, divides the two areas. Therefore, Odeceixe is the first beach in the Algarve, a well-known beach region in the country.
What explains its “almost” wild status is the distance from large centers and the fact that Odeceixe being a little isolated by the river and some mountains, low but which are obstacles to a quicker arrival. This is extremely positive for the beach, as it has almost no buildings which keeps it with a wilder, more natural look.
To give you an idea, just over 960 people live in the area. The beach and village of Odeceixe belongs to the board of Aljezur, no Algarve. On the beach, about two kilometers from the center of the village, there are not many houses, perhaps less than a dozen. There is a café with a spectacular view of the sea and the mountains and a small restaurant, also facing the mountains, but with a view of the river.
Precisely the fusion between the sea and the river makes it so Odeceixe is so beautiful and also offers visitors two possibilities: the beach or the river. For those who go with trailers, it is possible to stay well in places specifically for this type of vehicle. For those who go by car, there are options in the village and other nearby locations. To get to Odeceixe, just use National Road nº120, which passes right in front of the village.
Just over 240 km from the capital Lisbon, the beach of Odeceixe is worth visiting. Besides it, there are other locations in Vicentine Coast that are worth a visit, such as New Town of Thousand Springs, Porto Covo It is Zambujeira do Mar, among other small towns that are worth a visit.
