This is, of course, the mouth of the Douro River and corresponds to a different area of Porto: it is flatter, has more houses and fewer buildings, is next to the sea and is a more expensive residential neighborhood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"628\" height=\"420\" src=\"http:\/\/portugalafora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Forte-Sao-Francisco-Xavier.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-20605\" srcset=\"https:\/\/portugalafora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Forte-Sao-Francisco-Xavier.jpg 628w, https:\/\/portugalafora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Forte-Sao-Francisco-Xavier-500x334.jpg 500w, https:\/\/portugalafora.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/01\/Forte-Sao-Francisco-Xavier-300x201.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 628px) 100vw, 628px\" \/><figcaption>Fort S\u00e3o Francico Xavier, Photo: Visit Porto<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Let&#039;s start at Pra\u00e7a Gon\u00e7alves Zarco, where the Forte de S\u00e3o Francisco Xavier or Castelo do Queijo as it is better known is located, a 17th century building that was used to defend the city from pirates and was built on top of a granite rock. half-rounded and looked like cheese, hence its popular name. Nowadays it is an excellent spot to watch the sunset.
